I think Marcus and the gang would've been a lot more respected if the game began by showing what Marcus' life was prior to the events of watch dogs 2 and then followed up with him being wrongfully accused for something he didn't even commit or at least explored more into his past and his inner thoughts. sure he rigged elections and made deals to obtain people's private info but none of it felt "bad enough" for Marcus and the gang to hunt him down (not that he is a terrible villain but i think it's how the story portrayed him which made him feel less of a threat than suppose Damien, Iraq, Lucky Quinn, Defalt heck even Rempart was a more prominent villain throughout Bloodlines than Dusan was in his game and i dislike Rempart). Marcus is a great "fun" character but his reason for taking down Dusan felt lackluster at best and Dusan wasn't a very good villain either. in wd2 the tone shifts and now we have Marcus and the group. in wd1 we see Aiden and T-Bone show a lot of emotion regarding their situations and we get to listen to their inner monologues, which helps us understand their motivation behind their actions better. yes, he got screwed by the system and was flagged as a potential threat or what not (correct me if i am wrong). I think the reason behind the "hate" is that we never really got to know marcus that well.
